HOUSTON FOR AUDITOR
I, Michaelene J. Houston, am a lifelong resident of Starke County. I started in the Auditor’s office in November of 1984. In 1990 I signed up as a candidate for the office of Starke County Auditor. I took office on January 1, 1991, and served 2 terms as Auditor. I could not hold 3 consecutive terms and ran for Starke County Commissioner district 2 and took that office on January 1, 1999. At the end of that term I ran for Auditor again and took office for my third term as Auditor on January 1, 2003. With almost 22 years in County Government—18 of which were in the Auditor’s office—I feel I would be the most qualified for the position to continue as your County Auditor.
I am a graduate of Knox High School and graduated from Michiana College of Commerce with an Associates Degree.
I have been married for 35 years to Jeffery J. Houston. We have three children–Michelle Snowdon, Melissa Fairchild and Melinda McCarty. We have 9 grandchildren—Kayla, Byron, Halle, Robby, Brian, Brady, Joey, Miranda and Ellah.
I am the daughter of Michael D. Zingarelli and Billie J. Zingarelli and the granddaughter of Joyce Halcomb and the late Basel Halcomb.
